behind the name

deciding what to make my first post on seemed kind of daunting.  it's the first so there's no guarantee anyone will read it on it's own, some may find it months down the line after coming across a later post.  i wanted to make it relevant to anyone reading at any time.  then it became clear to me that the reasons behind this site will always be relevant so long as i'm still using it and people are still reading it.  so, why "where all the wildflowers are"?  it all starts in a car.

road trips can be fun to an extent and that extent truly depends on who you are with, what you're listening to or what you're doing.  but no matter how great the company or how good the book, hours and hours in the car can be draining and you feel as if the only way not to explode is to get out and move around or at least get your mouth moving by eating salty road trip snacks.  for me, finding the wildflower patches along the interstate made the drive worth it.  sometimes there are so many dispersed through the miles that it's impossible to stop at them all if you want to make it to your destination in reasonable time.  but even just a few quick stops to smell the wildflowers is the perfect break from driving.  and trust me, i never ever want to get back in the car, but i just remind myself that there will always be another patch of ones just like it, or maybe even better!!, just down the road.

lately i've started applying this to life.  a patch of wildflowers can be anything.  it's having a movie night with your family once you're home from college.  it's hugging your significant other after not seeing them for a bit.  it's treating yourself to your favorite ice cream shop in town, extra cookie dough on top of course!  wildflowers are the things in life that grow in between not so fun times.  life can be scary, really stressful, and anxiety ridden.  it can be hard and painful and sometimes it feels like you've been driving on a straight road counting the mile markers for hours.  but the beautiful thing about the road is that it can't last forever, even though it may feel like it.  soon, i promise, there will be a wonderful patch of flowers to break up the drive and i encourage you to stop and spend some time there.  take pictures, smile, love each and every one of those flowers.  those moments you'll experience will make you feel like you're flying and you deserve it.

so since i love metaphorical and literal wildflowers, i decided to create this blog to talk and document my drive on my own road of life.  i imagine that i'm doing it in a van, that way i have enough room for my rice cooker, guitar, climbing gear, and books.  and hopefully a dog or guinea pig (or two!) later down the road.  i want to use this blog to acknowledge the not so fun parts of life, but in the best way i can.  because i know i won't forever feel anxious and i know i won't always be sad.  some days i will find where all the wildflowers are and i want to use this blog to cherish them!  i want to share them and never forget them.

i hope you can join me on this drive, i'll put the windows down and some fleetwood mac on and we can find the wildflowers together.

peace&love,
monica marrocco
